With a sixteen car field in Extreme Street and an eight car field in True Street things
are off to a great start. There was
plenty of great racing and some spectacular exhibitions. Safe passes for everyone and lots going on
with the Pro Mods running too. There
were a lot of moving parts but everyone did great and kept things moving with a
strict 12pm deadline for getting everything done.
The True Street
drivers were really shining with an average reaction time of .068 and average
ET of 6.062. Round One began with a match
up between Derek Lewis and John Mathis with the win light going to Derek after
a redlight from John. Then Roy Spencer
faced off with Tommy Thormeyer and won with the best E.T of the night in True Street with a 5.784
at 123 MPH. Miguel Valera JR. fell to
Jim Remer followed by Paul Johnson’s win over Mike Wheeler to end round one eliminations.
Round two brought the best reaction time of the night when
Jim Rener cut a .003 light. Despite Jim’s
amazing reaction time he lost to Roy Spencer in his 66 Chevy II. Following them was a match up between Paul
Johnson and Derek Lewis with Paul moving on to finals in his 90 Ford Mustang.
When all was said and done Roy Spencer and Paul Johnson were
to face off in the finals and Roy
would be the one to cash the big check. Roy cut a .042 light and
ran 5.821 at 122.89 to Paul’s .134 light and running 5.913 at 122.3.
The Extreme
Street class was a full field and spectacular to
watch as usual. Round one was busy with
action starting with Pat McElroy versus Charles Riggins with Pat beating out Charles;
next was David Haley falling to Pat McKinney; following them Greg Green taking
the win light over Paul Polizzo; Gary Epperson ran by Randy David; Michael
Mitchell lost a close one to Daniel Large; Cedric Ingram took down Jim Staples;
John Dinkel took a win with Casey Braswell breaking; and to end round one Chip Raderchak
beat out Lewis Greer.
As with True
Street round two brought out the best reaction
time with Greg Green cutting .037 but failing to hold off Chip Raderchak’s
5.271 at 136.26 MPH which was the quickest pass of the night. Pat McKinney took out Daniel Large; Pat
McElroy eased passed Gary Epperson; and Cedric Ingram was beat by John Dinkel.
Round Three brought all kinds of excitement with the closest
race of the night when John Dinkel edged out Pat McKinney with a 5.321 at
133.26 MPH to Pat’s 5.327 at 133.22 MPH.
Following that was Pat McElroy’s win over Chip Raderchak but there is so
much more to it than that. Chip’s car
appeared to bog on launch but it recovered all at once and stood up on the bumper and stayed there well past the 330 foot markers.
Finals pitted John Dinkel in his Pontiac powered 78 Fairmont against Pat
McElroy’s 76 Chevy. Pat having issues
aborted his run and coasted across the traps leaving the win firmly with John Dinkel
running a 5.307 at 133.62.
