I have a question about after market blocks in the true street.

Why are after market tall deck blocks not allowed in the T/S class? Rule 5 under engines for true street.

I have a FACTORY mark IV tall deck block. The size of my motor is 525 c.i’s. This motor with nitrous, to be able to be competitive in the true street class will probably be on the verge of explosion on every pass. The block is only going to handle so much and in my combo is the weakest link.

The reason I’m bringing this up is there are motors in this class that are bigger then mine that have after market short deck blocks that are capable of handling a hell of a lot more power without destruction. I would like to be able to run this class with my combo of engine parts but with an equally strong block so not to worry about breaking the factory block and all the high dollar parts I’ve invested in. When I started building this car, the power levels were not at the levels they are at now. Four years ago.( My car will be ready at the first of the year for next season.) I have had to rethink and redo the motor configuration to meet the power levels and it has taken the block to the breaking point.

This is how I see it and hope the reality can be justified on a rule change.
An after market tall deck block has no bearing on performance or power out put as long as the motor is within the cubic inch range allowed by the rules. Wouldn’t it make sense to allow any block as long as the c.i. rule is not exceeded. Hey the comity checks each and every one of the motors for legal size! Why does the block matter? It shouldn’t!!!!

I’m also looking at the Money side of this. If I go out and make 20 pass, blow the thing up and hurt a lot of parts just because the block could not handle the load I’m out a lot of build expense approximately $8,000 or more for new motor. A NEW BLOCK to put all my internals in would only be about $2,500 with the security of not breaking the block with lots of other parts. Lets face it MONEY is tight for all of use right now. And it might mean race or not racing with the TTT.5

Lets think about this!!!

I would like to know asap if it can happen so as to have a enough time to make the change for racing next yr.

Thanks
Chris

If you don't have a aftermarket block why would it matter. What make you think your block will not handle 200hp worth of nitrous. I would think it would handle that and run for a while. Hell I ran a Gen6 block for over 4 years and its still together and it had 350 in the plate all of the time and had over 800 passes I bet. If you planned on running this car before this past year what would you of done when you could run whatever amount of nitrous?

Chris, you bring out a good point. That rule was in place when we didn't pump motors. Now we do. We will address this in the coming weeks.

Just for the record, their are some cars running stock block SBC motors that are running 5.50's!

First off D a gen-6 block or as the nick name goes the gen-fix block is not the same as mark-4 block.............. the webing is thicker in your block. What are you afraid of??????? I don't feel like blowing up parts just to be blowing up parts THATS stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!

And John, your right but can you say BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to take that chance. It'a a lot of money to through away on a stupid rule!!!!!!

I should be able to run a strong block like everyone else!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, i was just simply making a point. I also ran a stock block before the rule change that was very weak (817 casting 400 block) and it did go BOOM!!!!!!! the first year. GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks Jonh,

I wasn't trying to be smart. Just trying to make a point.
I think it's the smart thing to do. Waisting parts because of an out dated rule only hurt one's pocket book. And I'm not made out of money.

Im not afraid of anything just bought good stuff to began with. Which that is why that block is in the floor and it has a dart block now just for the fact the power levels we could run last year I wanted a better block so that is what I bought. Heck look at the green mustang he ran a stock 454 block all last year.

thanks for the question. the rules commitee will be meeting in the next few weeks to discuss possible changes for next year. this is the type of concern that needs to be brought to our attention.
if anyone else has a legitimate concern, please start a thread on it. that is what the board is for. BUT PLEASE KEEP THE RESPONSES POSITIVE!

See you even wanted a better block for the same reason I would like to have one. (the power level now!!!)
There is no argument that the power levels are getting high. When I started building my car I went with what I had on hand, now it's just not go enough. My motor might stay together for ever. I just don't think I or any one else should have to chance it. It's a money, safty, equality thing with me.

Rules should evolve so lets change the rule and make it right!!!!!

Thank you guy's on the committee for listening.
