It lools like the 76mm turbo rule might have to be re-evaluated, I'm pretty sure turbostang will agree that a 76mm and air to air will not even come close to running in the 5.50 range. I'm just sitting here waiting for something to change so I can come back and race, but a 76mm ain't gonna cut it.

I think everyone would agree that a 76 and an air to air won't make that kind of power.

Well.. The jury is still out on this subject. The problem - as I mentioned in the email Tommy, is that NO ONE has tried it. You can use a sleeved turbo, as long as meets the measurement requirements. I.e. 1/16 from the compressor, 76MM etc..

To top it all off, there has been ONLY 2 turbo cars ever tried T/S - both of which I worked on. One of them went a 6.0x on it's best pass with a severly failing C4 trans and the other one scattered it's motor on the FIRST pass and never came back. It did manage 122 MPH with a "real" GT4276 though - but that was WIDE OPEN.

The "real" 76MM dyno numbers aren't impressive, and I'd be the first to say - THAT turbo will NOT make that kind of power. Hell, they won't go 127 on slicks, on kill, on a good downhill track. (like the current T/S cars are doing). I'd almost be willing to bet that the current, top BB cars are making close to the same power withOUT the nitrous.

Now, I'd be the first to say - with the current weights and rules in place. I don't think you'll see much more than a .8x from a turbo car - if that.

We'll know more after this weekend..but in all fairness, I think it will take more like an 82MM to run those times with the current weight etc..

Why don't some of the turbo cars come out and race a few races then ask for something to change at the meeting next year. I can't remember the last time a turbo car raced in our class.

Same thing I said above Derek - There's only a couple of them around here that I know of. One of which will be testing this weekend. The other one, I don't think you'll see racing in TTT5.

It's kind of hard to buy an intercooler and a 76mm turbo and TRY it. I would like them to open it up like they did on some of the other rules and if someone comes in and covers the field by a tenth then lets back up and say that didn't work instead of someone building something that we all no won't make the power. Cedric has said "I can giveth and I can taketh". nobody will try it, I will just allow me something that might work and an air to water intercooler.

I agree there too. A turbo is as little as 750$ and as much as 2500$. It's a VERY expensive thing to "try" out.

The ONLY problem that I can think of is that WE (collectively meaning "racers") are greedy - it's how we work. WE want less weight, more power, all for less money etc.. having said that, if WE get the "bigger" turbo then WE will NEVER want to give it back (back to a smaller one) if WE start outrunning the field. The next logical step is to add weight... You see where I am going with this? It's the snowball effect that never seems to stop in a favorable place for both sides.

This weekend, as I mentioned, we will be doing some testing. Providing we can get some GOOD passes in, we might have some good arguiing info, or the commitee will have some good arguiing info.... we'll jsut have to see how it goes.

I wonder if that grey G-body that's on you tube would meet TTT5 T/S rules? Doesn't it run a 76 with no intercooler? I don't know the weight but I think it's stock suspension and has run some .80's if I remember correctly. The video link is on here somewhere.

I found it, it's an 80mm but it doesn't have an intercooler. It's been 5.65 and weighs 3400.

I'm working on putting a turbo car together right now for true street. I will not be able to keep up this year, just hoping for some 5.90's. I'm waiting on the c/m tubing to arrive so I can finish the roll cage, and the motor is due from the machine shop in June. I don't think I'll make the June 20th race, but the race after that is what I'm shooting for.
I don't know about an air to water intercooler for true street. As I see it, that's not what I think of when I think "true street", but mabe next year a turbo upgrade or weight change.
For now I just want to get the car in the field.
